Athletics White Sox BaseballWhite Sox 6 – Athletics 2: Jim Thome hit a 3-run, put-away homer for the Sox in the eighth inning as they bested Oakland 6-2.  Gavin Floyd went 7 strong for Ozzie’s bunch striking out eight along the way.  This has to beg the question of where a player such as Jim Thome ranks among all-time HR hitters.  Much like former south-sider Frank Thomas, Thome is one of the few players left from the 1990s that isn’t yet linked to steroids.

Pirates 8 – Mets 5: J.J. Putz didn’t even record an out in the eighth as the Pirates scored five runs to beat the Mets.  Not a single run in the game came via the long-ball.  Carlos Beltran was another late scratch for the wounded Metropolitans.

Astros 4 – Rockies 1: Just another guy that doesn’t want to pitch for the White Sox threw a gem after speaking out.  Roy Oswalt went 7 IP and picked up 8 Ks in the outing.  The petting zoo in Houston brought in all the runs as El Caballo and Big Puma drove in two steaks each.
