Jessica MichibataPoints of Interest is the daily link dump for your morning or afternoon commute in and out of Souvenir City.  We’ll be throwing together some other stops from out there in blogdome and the interwebs to peak your interest.  Some of them will actually be what some might consider educational.  Most of them, are going to everything but that.

Slow day with the exception of the McNair news breaking that it’s not being ruled a murder-suicide.  So glad that’s over.  Condolences to the McNair family, *mumbles under breath* to the other one.  Can we please move on from that story now?  Hope you enjoyed the SEC preview as we’ll be doing the Big 12 tomorrow; again splitting into the two divisions.  Pac-10 will be done by us next week.  Big East doesn’t deserve it.  Jessica Michibata is a F1 WAG of Jenson Button.

These is absolutely ridiculous, Philadelphia.  There has to be some sort of consequences for the owners or proprietors of the pool……..They won’t let hookers get bank accounts in Amsterdam.  That’s absurd!  They can’t put the money in the mattress! It might get messy!……..We tweeted about this earlier but, Google could put the nail in the Microsoft coffin as they’re coming out with an Operating System……..Four pieces of good news for Republicans……..

After the jump, Magic Johnson and Kobe just not being too bright.

Brazil US SoccerWe watched the last 60 minutes of this game, match or whatever you call it.  It was entertaining.  However, we noticed a total suck-it-in once they were up 2-0.  We’re not going to pretend to know anything about soccer or tell you otherwise.  The U.S. played above their ranking for most of this tournament.  It was a miracle they even got to play Spain, let alone win, considering the circumstances.

Consider this a momentum builder.  And, a fan base builder.

We made a concerted effort to watch because we’re trying to be fair in posting on all sports.  But, we’re still not soccer “fans” per say.  We’ll watch the World Cup next year but we won’t be watching soccer until then.

Final thing:  Tim Howard is a helluva goalkeeper in our opinion.  His defense did him no favors during most of the tournament.  Just look at shot differential.  Not a choke job by the U.S.  Brazil is just plain better.

USA SoccerNo, we’re not taking a shot at the flopping nature of soccer players.  Again, we’re fully admitted to not being enthusiasts to the footy.  However, we will admit to watching this game in its entirety.  Well, it was on our TV the whole time but we might not have been paying attention the whole time.

It was exciting.  It was entertaining.  And, it was fast-paced.  USA goaltender Tim Howard was incredible.  Spain is #1 in the world and we killed a scoreless streak for their goalkeeper and a winning streak for the team.  Since we’re still learning about the intricacies of soccer, there’s not much more we can say about it.

We did think that the red card towards the end of the second half was bogus.  Jozy Altidore is only 19 and could be a big impetus in getting soccer going among the youth movement in America.  His goal in the 27th minute was the deciding factor.  We’ll do the whole patriotism thing and watch the final against either South Africa or Brazil.  That being said, we can still name more WAGs than players on the U.S. Team.  And, we are still learning the positions.

Kudos U.S.A. Soccer.  You’re slowly gaining our attention.  Don’t stop now.  We’re serious.

Late breaking news last night with Shaq leaving the desert for the mistake on the Lake.  We wanted to make sure and include a whole section of links for Ed Thomas from yesterday so we’ll have that for you below.  And, believe it or not, we did some reading and have a post on the soccer match from yesterday.  We’ve said our piece about everything yesterday but the U.S.A. victory deserves a definite mention.  Tonight is the NBA Draft so there’s going to be some major input on that today as well.  Who said the summer was boring?  It’s definitely hot in here with Aida Yespica.

Kirk Ferentz with a few words on Ed Thomas……..The Des Moines Register with their remembrance of the AP Head Coach……..Finally, the NBC affiliate in the Des Moines area has some photos, ex-players and current commentators reactions on yesterday’s events……..First it’s stadiums that get sponorship and naming rights.  Now, it’s subway stations in NYC? Huh?……..Quote from this article:  “But the more a potential fix affects them personally, the less interested they are in supporting it.”  Yup.  Couldn’t agree more……..Extending the nominees for best picture to 10 nominees?  Really?  That’s just too many.

After the jump, the photo of the day.

What is going on in the world?  Deadspin had a commenter overhaul the other week and our favorite site, The Big Lead, might be doing the same thing.  If it makes any difference, we hope that it continues to be an open forum and that we don’t get launched from there.  We offer TBL a picture of his favorite, Blake Lively, as a gift.  And, we’re bringing all those people clamoring for a PM Round-Up over at that mothership the Points of Interest in the afternoon so you can leave work with a picture and some links.  So stop bitching!  Onto the sports and news!

This Iran stuff couldn’t possibly get any worse.  Or could it? We’re not changing our avatar to green but those people definitely have our support……..Barry is starting to toughen up the vernacular when it comes to the former topic.  We’re still confused as to what an appropriate response would be……..We know a few of our Florida readers are struggling through this.  Hope your A.C. is good and charged……..Beer truck is run off the road.   NOOOOO!!!  Hopefully the beer is safe, oh, and the driver……..Police in British Columbia are searching for a naked french fry thief.  Canada, go figure……..The Independents (we consider ourselves in that category) are starting to turn against Obama.  They are definitely a reason he got into office in the first place.  We’re not ready to give up quite yet.

After the jump, a quality video of Vinnie Jones who you may remember from Lock-Stock or Snatch.

TigerWoodsSmileDid you expect anyone else to be at the top of this list?  We didn’t think so.  Tiger has endorsements from Pepsi, Gatorade, Nike and the now bankrupt General Motors.  The man could have footed the bill for all of new Yankee Stadium on his own.  The rest of the list is a little bit surprising.  You’ll never guess who’s tied at #2.

The guy that is the closest thing to Mike in the NBA right now and MJ himself made $45 million last year.  And no, it’s not Lebron.

Highlights of the list after the jump as well as the link to it.

Confederations CupWe’re giving it a shot!  Never played soccer, never even tried to follow it.  The U.S. impersonation of soccer, that being the MLS, has never been interesting and we think our Chicago Fire won a title at some point in the recent past.  But, soccer is king everywhere else in the world and we’re making an attempt to be a little more international.

The only name we recognize on the field (is that right?) is Landon Donovan.  That’s because we watched the World Cup a few years ago and remember his name from that.  And, when we say we watched, it was about 20 total minutes.

Perhaps we just need to buy a soccer video game or something to learn the players and the rules.  Or, perhaps we will watch it and realize we’re just not that into the footy.  Then again, when we see the WAGs that are associated with the players, we’re sure we’ll find something to captivate our interest long enough.

Suffice to say, we won’t be doing recaps or previews of them anytime soon.
