ChicagoAtNight1We’re unveiling a new final post for every day that we’ll put up for folks to comment on (yeah, right) and with what’s on the tube for the evening.  We’ll give you a run down of sports, entertainment, local titty bar specials and other things to watch for while you evade the kids or shrug off your work from the day.

Tonight, there’s actually a few things that might be worth watching on the sports calendar.  Nomar Garciaparra makes his first return to Fenway Park for the first time since being traded to the Cubs in 2004 (ugh).  UFC continues its countdown of the top fights with numbers 75-51 on Spike.  And, Tommy Boy (we’ll pretty much watch it every time) is on Comedy Central.  The full slate of MLB games and probable starters after the jump (courtesy MLB.com).

Yesica ToscaniniPoints of Interest is the daily link dump for your morning or afternoon commute in and out of Souvenir City.  We’ll be throwing together some other stops from out there in blogdome and the interwebs to peak your interest.  Some of them will actually be what some might consider educational.  Most of them, are going to everything but that.

Yesica Toscanini, everybody.  Man did it feel good to get back into the commenting yesterday.  At the risk of having Chris Hansen at our door, it’s amazing what the internet can do.  We still wonder how people survived before it.  We’re rolling with a theme today.  Coaches.  You’ll see what we’re getting at later as there are about 5-6 posts on it.  Lots of moves in the NHL yesterday, yet only a few in the NBA.  We’ll be posting on both of those today as well.  Keep those tips, ideas and criticisms coming to SouvenirCityBlog@gmail.com.

This is really sad and it only furthers our fear of flying.  This girl is the lone survivor of the Yemeni flight that crashed and she’s asking for her mother.  Hate to see stuff like this……..Don’t turn us into John Madden.  We like traveling by boat.  Never been to NY but we need to go.  Maybe not to Staten Island now……..Warn you now.  It’s a bit long, but a great explanation of the the Ricci v. DeStefano case and why even the dissenters disagree with Sotomayor.  Ringing endorsement of the Civil Rights Act……..Enough real news.  Almost the weekend, funny time.  How many bowls did these kids smoke before they stole this stuff from a gas station?  Ballsy stoners……..Fireworks in the Congo send citizens running for cover.  They thought they were being bombed and war had broken out.  Silly, Congo……..A house used for fire training starts on fire.  For real, though.  Not planned.

With Independence Day around the corner, after the jump, we’ve linked the greatest speech in the history of movies.  The only thing that would make it better is fireworks, eagles flying behind Bill Pullman and a Ted Nugent appearance.

Joanna KrupaPoints of Interest is the daily link dump for your morning or afternoon commute in and out of Souvenir City.  We’ll be throwing together some other stops from out there in blogdome and the interwebs to peak your interest.  Some of them will actually be what some might consider educational.  Most of them, are going to everything but that.

We’ve still got more posts coming today but we wanted to get the afternoon linkage out to you before you left work.  Is it a slow week at the office?  We’ve noticed a significant decrease in people on blogs (not just ours).  We’re probably going to slow it down for the rest of the week with most people being off on Friday.  Most likely have some off-topic, non-sports posts on Friday.  Joanna Krupa just might be our Megan Fox.  Can’t get enough of her, so we’re posting her again.

If you’ve never seen Streetcar Named Desire, you should.  Karl Madlen won an academy award for it and unfortunately passed today at 97……..We might be accused of being Republicans from time to time.  But not with this one.  We agree that taxes need to be raised to combat the deficit……..Whoa.  TonySopranoCare?  That’s what they’re calling the Obama healthplan?  Wouldn’t go that far. But here’s a list of the top five promises that are broken with this plan……..Putin told his country to stop gambling an drinking today.  Just don’t stop producing vodka for the rest of the world please……..If you’re going to rob a gas station, make sure you don’t run out of gas on the getaway……..Internet filters in China now blocking pictures of Garfield the cat.  He’s so raunchy.  Gives Paris Hilton a run for her money.

Two links after the jump and more FAIL videos.  Oh, and a NSFW shot of Joanna Krupa.

We’ve got the grill fired up for the final top at our current location and we’re getting set to watch the Cross-Town Classic.  If you noticed any spelling errors in today’s posts, it’s because we’re day drinking.  Andy Hutchins even caught us being stupid on the Twitter.  We really can’t think of anyone better than Keeley to send you into the weekend.  She’s English too, so that finishes our theme for the week.

Last MJ link for the day.  There’s a secret library of 100 songs that could be released soon. We know we’re buying that……..A nice little chart showing you fees by airlines. We haven’t flown since last August.  Conquering that fear shortly……..A stop in Dallas yields 100 pounds of pot in a casket. Nope, not Nate Newton.  New guy……..The Sun-Times continues to be the right leaning paper here in Chicago. But, there are some valid points here……..The House won their vote on the Global Warming bill. Move it on up the ladder now.  We still don’t think it passes.

After the jump, the child bicycle crashes compilation to send you off to the weekend.  Set to music from Roger Rabbit.

We’ve got poker on tap for tonight so this could very well be the last post of the night.  Hopefully we don’t come back broke tomorrow since we don’t have our sponsors up yet.  The U.S. is good at soccer after all!  We beat Spain to end their 35 game unbeaten streak!  That’s all you’re getting from us on soccer.  On second thought, here’s Sapphira O’Shannon.  She’s an english WAG which before 2 weeks ago, was the only thing we paid attention to in soccer/football.  Do yourself a favor later and google image her.  Or just click the jump.

South Carolina governor the latest in a string of affairs in politics.  $50 he’s not the last.  Today……..A look at the GOP Stars that were supposed to be but are just never beens……..We’re still under missile watch.  We wouldn’t even call Obama’s plate full at this point. He’s got an all-you-can-eat buffet that he’s working on……..Forbes wants to know what the plan is for that buffet.  We thought this was issued months ago……..Woman pleads guilty in drunk breast-feeding case.  You have to read it to believe it……..Did anyone else know that Obama was a smoker?  Isn’t he trying to destroy the tobacco companies once and for all?

Minka Kelly On The Set Of 'The Roommate'Points of Interest is the daily link dump for your morning or afternoon commute in and out of Souvenir City.  We’ll be throwing together some other stops from out there in blogdome and the interwebs to peak your interest.  Some of them will actually be what some might consider educational.  Most of them, are going to everything but that.

Minka Kelly – Derek Jeter’s current lady friend.  It’s gonna be a long week people.  At least we have Wimbledon to look forward to even though some of you may not be tennis fans.  The College World Series game last night was very exciting and we’ll be doing a post on it later today.  The Pujols Triple-Crown rumors are already starting and it makes us want to vomit.  If the Cardinals never won a game for the rest of history, we wouldn’t care if the Cubs never won the World Series.  During this slow stint of the sports calendar we rely on our readers’ tips more than ever.  If you have anything you want to see that is sports, entertainment or whatever related, let us know at SouvenirCityBlog@gmail.com.

Despite all the venom we spew at D.C. for their lack of sports fandom, we do know a few people in the city.  The D.C. Metro is one of the best public trans systems in the country and this accident is very frightening……..This certainly doesn’t help our cause.  There’s one missing ingredient in this whole “recovery” thing we’ve been hearing so much about:  jobs……..This healthcare battle is going to get bloody.  And by no means is that supposed to be taken as a pun.  It’s gonna get ugly……..Good news!  Finally!  This inflation talk is way over-rated people.  We had a feeling the numbers we were hearing were way off.

Sorry folks, just not that much out there in out nightly reading.  And no, we did not watch Jon and Kate Plus 8.  So, for your enjoyment, more photobombing after the jump!  Just can’t get enough of it!

Hope your weekend was outstanding and you got to spend some time with the old man or that your kids bought you something other than socks.  We had an outstanding Crawfish boil and our head still hurts from the ensuing bar trip.  We also rediscovered how fun it is to bet on the ponies at the racetrack.  The U.S. Open finishes today and Tiger is no where to be found.  NBC can’t be happy about that.  Still, Phil has a small chance to pull off a miracle as he’s 6 back of the leader.  There’s a chance a movie review is coming today but we’ll for sure comment on the Kobe Bryant piece we read in SI in between packing up all our stuff for the move.  This piece over here is Joanna Krupa.  Your funny video of the day after the jump.

Obama’s approval rating is starting to tank. We think it has nothing to do with Iran but rather all of the money he’s been spending lately.  Amazing what changes in six months time……..Speaking of Iran, there’s now a Newsweek journalist that’s been detained……..The good news in the reporter detainee department is that this guy escaped the Taliban after being held captive for about 7 months……..We swear we’re not in the business of bashing the President but we can’t find anything that says positive things about him.  The newest gripe is his failure to follow through with the transparency he promised……..We don’t need to borrow any money yet but it looks like it will be at a higher interest rate when we do……..Our weird link for today:  Google Street view catches a mugging.
