Steve McNairWe were sitting in the garage at a BBQ on Saturday when we got a text message regarding the whole Steve McNair saga.  Our immediate response was a blurted, “Holy shit!”.  Yeah, unfortunately our 5-year old cousin was standing about 5 feet from us so that wasn’t the smartest reaction.  But, it was definitely a sincere reaction.  We didn’t know he was only 36.

The whole situation just reeks of shadyness.  The girl, Sahel Kazemi, that he was found with was 20 years old and a former Dave and Busters waitress.  McNair is married.  So, unless his wife is cool with Steve hanging around with some girl half his age, then there is more to this story than just two people being found shot to death on the 4th of July.

billy maysBilly Mays is now the next one to kick the bucket.  We feel like posting it because he did the ESPN 360 commercials…and he’s so much cooler than Vince from ShamWow and SlapChop.  What’s going to happen to Pitchman?  Who is going to convince us to buy OxyClean and other products we clearly don’t need?

They say bad things comes in threes or sevens.  Well, we’re up to four now.  Guesses on the next three?

After the jump, our favorite Billy Mays moment.  Reminds us of a Tenacious D song.

Michael Jackson Thriller Album Cover 25th Anniversary

Points of Interest is the daily link dump for your morning or afternoon commute in and out of Souvenir City.  We’ll be throwing together some other stops from out there in blogdome and the interwebs to peak your interest.  Some of them will actually be what some might consider educational.  Most of them, are going to everything but that.

The NBA Draft got overshadowed last night with the death of Michael Jackson being announced shortly after 6 p.m. on the east coast.  Still, the draft went on.  Lots of trades made last night.  Stuart continues to prove that he doesn’t belong behind a desk anymore.  And Ricky Rubio had a temper tantrum.  We’ll give our grades on the draft later today.  We leave you with Michael Jackson links, pictures and videos for the remainder of POI today.  Sports in the blog links.

TMZ has link after link after link after link of the coverage.  It’s almost a little bit too much……..The dispute over cause of death is also a little bit out of control.  The Jackson family is going to need some privacy over the next few days too……..Paramedics worked for about 40 minutes to try and keep him alive.  Not enough……..If you must see the last exclusive photo of M.J., here it is……..The biography from Rolling Stone is actually really good.  Normally we don’t read Rolling Stone very often either…….Madonna’s reaction can be found here.  Justin Timberlake’s can be found here.  It’s just amazing how far this guy’s music spanned and the influence that he had.  We’re a sports blog, but this story just reaches too far not to give it it’s proper due.

Sports Blogs:

Enough sports.  After the jump, the Michael Jackson videos you probably listened to last night.  They’re still good enough to get you through summer hours on a Friday

mcmahonIt may not be sports news, but it’s big news.  Ed McMahon has passed away this morning at UCLA Medical Center shortly after midnight.  We remember watching the Tonight Show as kids when McMahon would introduce Johnny Carson with his famous, “Herrrrrrrrrrrrrrre’s Johnny!”  Carson is still our favorite host of the Tonight Show but Conan will have plenty of time to change our minds.

McMahon does have some correlation with sports as his job as a pitchman often landed him on commercials during the Super Bowl or other sporting events.  In fact, you might remember this quality ad from this last year’s Super Bowl:

McMahon is survived by his wife Pamela and five children.
