Katy PerryPoints of Interest is the daily link dump for your morning or afternoon commute in and out of Souvenir City.  We’ll be throwing together some other stops from out there in blogdome and the interwebs to peak your interest.  Some of them will actually be what some might consider educational.  Most of them, are going to everything but that.

Apologies… AGAIN.  Little power outage in the Chicago Area this morning so our internet hasn’t been up.  It’s Friday!  And it’s summer!  We hope that many of your employers are giving you summer hours.  Which means by the time we get this up, many of you will be about an hour from getting out of work.  Hey, that’s a good thing.  We’re waiting on our Big XII writers today and hope to have that preview for you.  And UFC 100!  Katy Perry for your viewing enjoyment.

For those of you married folk out there, be careful when complaining about the wife’s cooking.  She might attack you……..This is why you don’t do running of the bulls.  You might get gored to death……..Cops arrested some guys dressed as Superman and Batman in Times Square……..disecting the $17 trillion divorce we’ve got on the horizon with China……..McNair story only gets stranger.  He taped suicide prevention ads the week before his girfriend went totally bat-shit crazy.

Apologies for the lateness of the afternoon links today.  We were reading a really long, but informative article on another site.  And had a conversation.  Regardless, today was a short day because we’re running at half speed after not getting a ton of sleep last night due to the 5 a.m. airport drive today.  Tomorrow, we PROMISE to get you the MLB Power Rankings, Big XII Preview and some NFL info.  We’re looking at fantasy football, let us know if you’re interested in it.  Erin Andrews, just because we feel bad for her taking guff on all this ball stuff.  Hopefully, she’s watching…

We only know one married guy in Florida that read our site?  JPQ, did you destroy this hotel room?……..The Big O with a big check out of some chick’s backside.  He’s still got it!……..Senator paid $96 to keep family quiet of his mistress.  That’s the price of silence?……..Franken rising, Palin falling.  Somehow, we’re not surprised……..Yes!  The unemployed need more help!  Champion this cause!……..

Bowl Championship SeriesThere was an article in the Salt Lake Tribune this morning about the Mountain West Conference and how it should take a stand against the BCS because it’s an unfair system and elitist.  We won’t disagree.  All those claims are fair.  But listen up MWC and the columists that are hell bent on staging a hunger strike for the schools they cover.

You’re not competing for a National Title any time in the near future.

Sadly, we don’t have a Big XII preview for you yet.  NickJ will be receiving 57 lashes for it (read: he has to work 12 hours today).  And, we’ve gotta drive some folks to the airport this morning so there’s no telling when Chicago traffic will put us back in front of the computer.  So, we’re bring in this post and two more for you to start the day.  Hopefully there’s a MLB Blockbuster out there for us to talk about.  Alyssa Milano in honor of her Tweeting us a link.  *fawns*

Man dies after falling into tank of chocolate. If you’re gonna go, that’s probably the best way……..British man receives inheritance, gets drunk and gives most of it away.  In an airport……..Greenpeace got ballsy.  They put a banner over Mt. Rushmore for global warming.  Freakin’ tree-huggin’ hippies……..And, the news wave of covering the Obama children on politcal issues officially begins.  Wake us when they can legally buy a pack of cigarettes……..We really don’t like posting from Slate, but this is.  The sequel to the $750 billion stimulus we already passed.

Slow day with the exception of the McNair news breaking that it’s not being ruled a murder-suicide.  So glad that’s over.  Condolences to the McNair family, *mumbles under breath* to the other one.  Can we please move on from that story now?  Hope you enjoyed the SEC preview as we’ll be doing the Big 12 tomorrow; again splitting into the two divisions.  Pac-10 will be done by us next week.  Big East doesn’t deserve it.  Jessica Michibata is a F1 WAG of Jenson Button.

These is absolutely ridiculous, Philadelphia.  There has to be some sort of consequences for the owners or proprietors of the pool……..They won’t let hookers get bank accounts in Amsterdam.  That’s absurd!  They can’t put the money in the mattress! It might get messy!……..We tweeted about this earlier but, Google could put the nail in the Microsoft coffin as they’re coming out with an Operating System……..Four pieces of good news for Republicans……..

After the jump, Magic Johnson and Kobe just not being too bright.

SEC West

Sparty and Friends’ HuskerDawg brings you the rest of the SEC today and finishes the conference off with the SEC West today.

Last year the SEC West was dominated by Alabama, with the Tide going 5-0 against the division.  LSU endured the first rebuilding year under Les Miles and Arkansas, Mississippi State and Auburn struggled mightily throughout the year.  The one surprise in the West was Houston Nutt and Mississippi.

Reverend Nutt was in his first year in Oxford and expectations were in the range of a seven win season.  The Rebels fared much better than that.  Ole Miss went into the Swamp and gave Florida its only loss of the year, finishing at 9-4 with each of their losses being seven points or less.  With their win in the Cotton Bowl over highly ranked Texas Tech as the last thing people remember, they seem to be the chic pick to take on Florida in the SEC title game.  Here is the SEC West preview, in order of projected finish.

SEC EastWe’ve got a special guest poster today.  Commenter GodsoftheGridiron over at The Big Lead is a college football expert, intern’d for TBL and ran the college football beat last year so we couldn’t think of anyone better than him to run down the best conference in college football for you.  He usually contributes over at Sparty and Friends and writes as HuskerDawg over there.

Last year the SEC emerged from the bowl season as the top conference in college football.  While using bowl games as a barometer for conference superiority is stupid and short-sighted, the SEC was the best conference last year before the bowl games were played, so the point is moot.  With Florida poised to make yet another run at a national title, look for the national media to get on bended-knee and fellate the boys from the South all season long.  Without further adieu, here is your 2009 SEC preview (in order of projected finish).
