Dale Tallon BlackhawksThe Chicago Blackhawks may have made a huge mistake this past week.  There are several restricted free agents that needed to have qualified offers sent to them by June 29th and they needed to be sent by a certain delivery method.  Well, the Hawks decided that the pony express would be a sufficient option and stars like Kris Versteeg and Cam Barker may not have recieved their offers on time.

If that’s the case, these players could become unrestricted free agents this week.  Really Blackhawks?  After such a good season?

Marian-HossaWe heard, read and talked about the 12 year deal that the Blackhawks signed Marian Hossa to today.  We’re hockey fans, not experts on free agency in the sport.  But we must ask:

What the fuck?

12 years?  In a sport that only comes in 2nd to violence, contact and collisions to football, why would you sign a player to a 12 year deal?  NHL contracts are guaranteed unlike the NFL.  If Hossa gets hurt in the next 144 months, the Hawks are on the tab for all of the money that the contract stipulates.  We understand calculated risks.  This is a just a plain stupid risk.  Here’s a look at other ridiculous NHL deals.

Rosaria CannavoPoints of Interest is the daily link dump for your morning or afternoon commute in and out of Souvenir City.  We’ll be throwing together some other stops from out there in blogdome and the interwebs to peak your interest.  Some of them will actually be what some might consider educational.  Most of them, are going to everything but that.

Ok.  So we bricked on the PM Points of Interest yesterday.  We’re making up for it today by treating you to the start of our college football previews and predictions.  We shot an 88 on Monday and a 98 on Tuesday at a much tougher course.  We got drunk on Tuesday we explains (but doesn’t excuse) our score and the biff on the POI yesterday.  Today, we’re back in action.  College football.  College hoops.  MLB.  NHL Free Agency.  NBA Free Agency.  Wimbledon.  And, the 4th of July.  We’ve got posts from all over the place today.  One errand to run early morning but that’s it.  And we let you wake up next to Rosaria Cannavo.  Just don’t tell Christian Panucci (ask Ty Duffy who he is).

Al Franken has made a Super Majority in the Senate. We used to like Al when we read his book and we were super liberal in college.  As we’ve gravitated towards the middle, we don’t.  Scary……..That North Korea threat has been averted.  For now……..Uncovering what really happened in Honduras.  Seems that we didn’t quite get all the facts on Mr. Zelaya the first time we read about this……..Have you guys seen Bing?  The new search engine?  Was unaware it was a Microsoft creation. Kinda stirring the pot a little……..Ever skipped out on a tab?  How about three times in one week?

After the jump, a few more links and the reason we don’t cover horse racing all that much…in video format, of course!  Also, a video that for some reason just cracks us up.  The version of Bohemian Rhapsody is hilarious and the slide that these kids are coming out of looks like a giant wang.  We got bored and the internet helped us last night.  Thank you, internet.

We shot an 88 yesterday on a pretty tough track.  Had a couple pretty amazing shots, including our first eagle of our golf career.  We’re playing again today!  We’ll post the link of the spot we’re playing later so you can check it out.  A ton of stuff going on in sports yesterday and we promise you a college football post today!  NickJ is also cooking up some Indy car racing posts too.  He’s our resident expert.  Readers, keep your tips coming.  You guys are awesome.  We’ve had so many good tips in the past few days we don’t even know how to post them all.  This blog has been like therapy for us and you’re all a part of it.  Still at the same spot:  SouvenirCityBlog@gmail.com.  Giorgia Palmas is definitely worth a Google image search.

We’ve taken a stand in Honduras.  We’re siding with the guy that got thrown out. You know, we agree.  However, how many wars can we get involved with?…….A Supreme Court decision has nullified a ruling that Sonia Sotomayor made as a district judge.  Does this matter? It’s not going to affect her affirmation status……..Interesting.  A politcal winner or losers argument regarding Iran’s revolution. Don’t they only do this for drafts in sports?……..How quickly the tables turn.  We have always been supporters of the Governator.  However, public opinion is making a case to remove him from office……..Flip, Flop, Flip, Flop, Flip, Flop.  Can’t make up their minds on this climate bill can they?……..If you’re going to steal something, don’t try and sell it to the person you stole it from……..This one came from a reader.  A solid piece on healthcare reform.  (H/T to younglefty).

We have to show you this streaker.  Even if he’s a Red Sox fan.  Go Yankees! Red Sox suck!  (Walkoff Walk)

Mack Brown thinks that the Big XII is better than the SEC. Nope…Sorry Mack.  We’re Big Ten guys and we have to disagree.  (Sparty and Friends)

Erin Pageviews is hosting a show.  Why?  Is the Sideline Princess going to become the Behind-A-Desk Princess?  (The Rookies Blog)

So…where is Citi Field Located?  This screengrab by the Hernia makes us wonder along with him.  (The Sports Hernia)

The PBA explores outdoor bowling. They need all the help they can get at this point.  (Joe Sports Fan)

The builder of the Dallas Cowboys practice facility was aware that it was unsafe when it was built.  Sweet.  (SPORTSbyBROOKS)

We’re going to agree with these guys and bash our own kind.  Cubs fans…please, think before acting next time.  (Josh Q. Public)

Dany Heatley has asked for a trade.  Here’s a look at some of the trade offers and the collegiate affiliations of the players involved.  (The College Hockey Blog)

We golfed with NickJ yesterday.  He hadn’t seen the classic video we put up after the jump.  Please, football season.  Come quickly!

pageant_win_michellePoints of Interest is a daily weekend link dump.  We’ll be throwing together some other stops from out there in blogdome and the interwebs to peak your interest.  Some of them will actually be what some might consider educational.  Most of them, are going to everything but that.

We’re still putting the finishing touches on moving but we went ahead and made sure that we had some programming today.  Not much going on yesterday other than baseball.  Today, you do have Wimbledon to work with.  Better yet, get out and enjoy the sun.  We’ll be in the pool this afternoon trying to make sure we don’t look like a token white guy.  And, we’re hitting the driving range this evening as we’re playing golf on both Monday and Tuesday with commenter and contributor NickJ85.  Gotta love the summer in the Midwest.  Because winter sucks.  Michelle Nunes does not.  She was our waitress at Hooters once.

In case you haven’t seen it yet, the Jackson family did issue a message to the fans on behalf of the departed.  We’re still rockin’ the MJ tunes on the iPod while doing the touch-up paint……..India is issuing ID cards to every single one of their citizens and placing them into a database.  Yup.  All 1.1 billion of them.  And you thought the line at the DMV here was bad……..Men in New York are charged with taking their passengers on a wild police chase.  First, we’d thank them.  Then, we’d tell the people that bitched that a cab would have been the same……..Arguments for a single bank regulator to prevent another credit crisis.  Step in the right direction if you ask us.

Speaking of golf… After the jump, a video of one of our favorite pranks.  We’ll have to get a job at a driving range to pull it off.

We’ve got the grill fired up for the final top at our current location and we’re getting set to watch the Cross-Town Classic.  If you noticed any spelling errors in today’s posts, it’s because we’re day drinking.  Andy Hutchins even caught us being stupid on the Twitter.  We really can’t think of anyone better than Keeley to send you into the weekend.  She’s English too, so that finishes our theme for the week.

Last MJ link for the day.  There’s a secret library of 100 songs that could be released soon. We know we’re buying that……..A nice little chart showing you fees by airlines. We haven’t flown since last August.  Conquering that fear shortly……..A stop in Dallas yields 100 pounds of pot in a casket. Nope, not Nate Newton.  New guy……..The Sun-Times continues to be the right leaning paper here in Chicago. But, there are some valid points here……..The House won their vote on the Global Warming bill. Move it on up the ladder now.  We still don’t think it passes.

After the jump, the child bicycle crashes compilation to send you off to the weekend.  Set to music from Roger Rabbit.

Michael Jackson Thriller Album Cover 25th Anniversary

Points of Interest is the daily link dump for your morning or afternoon commute in and out of Souvenir City.  We’ll be throwing together some other stops from out there in blogdome and the interwebs to peak your interest.  Some of them will actually be what some might consider educational.  Most of them, are going to everything but that.

The NBA Draft got overshadowed last night with the death of Michael Jackson being announced shortly after 6 p.m. on the east coast.  Still, the draft went on.  Lots of trades made last night.  Stuart continues to prove that he doesn’t belong behind a desk anymore.  And Ricky Rubio had a temper tantrum.  We’ll give our grades on the draft later today.  We leave you with Michael Jackson links, pictures and videos for the remainder of POI today.  Sports in the blog links.

TMZ has link after link after link after link of the coverage.  It’s almost a little bit too much……..The dispute over cause of death is also a little bit out of control.  The Jackson family is going to need some privacy over the next few days too……..Paramedics worked for about 40 minutes to try and keep him alive.  Not enough……..If you must see the last exclusive photo of M.J., here it is……..The biography from Rolling Stone is actually really good.  Normally we don’t read Rolling Stone very often either…….Madonna’s reaction can be found here.  Justin Timberlake’s can be found here.  It’s just amazing how far this guy’s music spanned and the influence that he had.  We’re a sports blog, but this story just reaches too far not to give it it’s proper due.

Sports Blogs:

Enough sports.  After the jump, the Michael Jackson videos you probably listened to last night.  They’re still good enough to get you through summer hours on a Friday
