71797499GD_D041512010They got Jason Kidd to agree to a deal to act as their Steve Nash.  Now the Dallas Mavericks are looking to bring in Shawn Marion.  Isn’t this compilation of players about five years too late?  And, the Suns never even made the NBA Finals with these guys.

What makes Mark Cuban think they can do it with Dirk and this aging band of misfits?

Roy HalladayJ.P. Ricciardi’s phone is going to be ringing off the hook in the next few weeks.  He’s opened the door to trading who we think is the most reliable and most talented pitcher in baseball.  Roy Halladay is an innings eater that has been living in relative obscurity for 12 seasons north of the border.

This is going to be the most talked about name prior to the trade deadline and if he is in fact traded, he’ll have the greatest impact on pennant races going into the 2nd half.  But, who is willing to put together the package required to land Halladay?  It’s going to require prospects, payroll and some onions by a GM willing to risk their future on winning a title in the next two seasons.

We’ve got a few ideas on who fits that persona.

audrina patridgePoints of Interest is the daily link dump for your morning or afternoon commute in and out of Souvenir City.  We’ll be throwing together some other stops from out there in blogdome and the interwebs to peak your interest.  Some of them will actually be what some might consider educational.  Most of them, are going to everything but that.

Nice to get back to business today.  Also, hope you all enjoyed younglefty’s ACC Preview, we’ll be doing the SEC tomorrow.  It’s a slow day in sports despite all of the off the field stories.  We’ll go ahead and get a Tiger post up a little bit later because we did actually enjoy his interview of himself.  Tomorrow, we’re playing golf… again.  So, we’ll make sure to have some content up while we’re in transit to the course and playing.  Send us your tips here.  Audrina Patridge because we haven’t posted her yet.

Don’t try to teach your 5 year-old daughter how to drive with her on your lap.  Especially while speeding and swerving.  It’s apparently child abuse……..Some guy lost his wallet in 1982.  They found it in a tree in New York. Only $20 was missing.  Time value of money makes that like $200!……..Looks like the Big O has agreed with Russia to pursue nuclear reduction.  Didn’t Reagan have a shot at this in 1982?……..Still talking about Michael Jackson, 2 weeks later.  Control of his assets have been transferred. We thought he had no assets?……..14% unemployment.  Speaking of 1982….

Three additional links after the jump and why do the FAIL videos seem to always include foreign nationals?  They show us how to NOT open a bottle.

As we posted about yesterday, we watched the soccer match.  It was entertaining.  And much better than watching the Cubs get smoked by the Sox… again.  We’ll tentatively throw our hats in the soccer fan pool.  We still don’t know any players other than Tim Howard, Jozy (who named him?) Altidore and Tim Howard.  But, we’re learning.  It’s still on the bottom of our sports hierarchy, but we’re happy to have it aboard.  We’ll be out playing golf today with commenter and contributor NickJ.  2nd round of the year, hoping to break 95.  Don’t worry though, we’ve got 8 posts of entertainment to get you through the day.  Transformers opened to awful reviews, but Megan Fox (first time we’ve posted her!) is still a -10 for the course in everyone’s book.  We think she’s even par or one under.  (/runs!)

Honduras is the latest country to have some civility issues.  There was an army coup and the President is currently seeking asylum in the Costa Rica……..Mark Sanford, the South Carolina governor who went out of the country to get his rocks off, considered resigning from his post.  He won’t……..Looks like the Democrats may have a Republican ally in getting gay marriage passed.  The kids of gay couples……..Those damn wallabies!  They’re getting STONED and making crop circles! Australia:  Still land of degenerates……..A very good point about public healthcare.  If it’s not using public funds, isn’t it just an NPO offering health insurance?

After the jump, what we think the letters from the South Carolina might look like when writing to his whore.  If she were a man.  VIDEO!

We’re still putting the finishing touches on moving but we went ahead and made sure that we had some programming today.  Not much going on yesterday other than baseball.  Today, you do have Wimbledon to work with.  Better yet, get out and enjoy the sun.  We’ll be in the pool this afternoon trying to make sure we don’t look like a token white guy.  And, we’re hitting the driving range this evening as we’re playing golf on both Monday and Tuesday with commenter and contributor NickJ85.  Gotta love the summer in the Midwest.  Because winter sucks.  Michelle Nunes does not.  She was our waitress at Hooters once.

In case you haven’t seen it yet, the Jackson family did issue a message to the fans on behalf of the departed.  We’re still rockin’ the MJ tunes on the iPod while doing the touch-up paint……..India is issuing ID cards to every single one of their citizens and placing them into a database.  Yup.  All 1.1 billion of them.  And you thought the line at the DMV here was bad……..Men in New York are charged with taking their passengers on a wild police chase.  First, we’d thank them.  Then, we’d tell the people that bitched that a cab would have been the same……..Arguments for a single bank regulator to prevent another credit crisis.  Step in the right direction if you ask us.

Speaking of golf… After the jump, a video of one of our favorite pranks.  We’ll have to get a job at a driving range to pull it off.

UPDATE (6:20 p.m.): Trade is finalized.  Just has to go through owner approval which should be no problem.  Think it helps Nets with their backcourt.  Magic are getting massive contracts and the numbers look bad on their cap.  No chance they re-sign Hedo and Gortat.  They will have luxury tax issues already with just Carter’s contract.

With all of these trades going on for aging stars, it appears that NBA GMs are in a time capsule.  We haven’t heard any finalized portions of this deal but we saw a comment on another blog that said it was a done deal.  Here is what we’ve seen so far:

Sources:  Nets in Serious Talks to Send Carter to Orlando (ESPN)

Why would the Magic trade Courtney Lee?

Late breaking news last night with Shaq leaving the desert for the mistake on the Lake.  We wanted to make sure and include a whole section of links for Ed Thomas from yesterday so we’ll have that for you below.  And, believe it or not, we did some reading and have a post on the soccer match from yesterday.  We’ve said our piece about everything yesterday but the U.S.A. victory deserves a definite mention.  Tonight is the NBA Draft so there’s going to be some major input on that today as well.  Who said the summer was boring?  It’s definitely hot in here with Aida Yespica.

Kirk Ferentz with a few words on Ed Thomas……..The Des Moines Register with their remembrance of the AP Head Coach……..Finally, the NBC affiliate in the Des Moines area has some photos, ex-players and current commentators reactions on yesterday’s events……..First it’s stadiums that get sponorship and naming rights.  Now, it’s subway stations in NYC? Huh?……..Quote from this article:  “But the more a potential fix affects them personally, the less interested they are in supporting it.”  Yup.  Couldn’t agree more……..Extending the nominees for best picture to 10 nominees?  Really?  That’s just too many.

After the jump, the photo of the day.
