Katy PerryPoints of Interest is the daily link dump for your morning or afternoon commute in and out of Souvenir City.  We’ll be throwing together some other stops from out there in blogdome and the interwebs to peak your interest.  Some of them will actually be what some might consider educational.  Most of them, are going to everything but that.

Apologies… AGAIN.  Little power outage in the Chicago Area this morning so our internet hasn’t been up.  It’s Friday!  And it’s summer!  We hope that many of your employers are giving you summer hours.  Which means by the time we get this up, many of you will be about an hour from getting out of work.  Hey, that’s a good thing.  We’re waiting on our Big XII writers today and hope to have that preview for you.  And UFC 100!  Katy Perry for your viewing enjoyment.

For those of you married folk out there, be careful when complaining about the wife’s cooking.  She might attack you……..This is why you don’t do running of the bulls.  You might get gored to death……..Cops arrested some guys dressed as Superman and Batman in Times Square……..disecting the $17 trillion divorce we’ve got on the horizon with China……..McNair story only gets stranger.  He taped suicide prevention ads the week before his girfriend went totally bat-shit crazy.

We’re playing golf again today.  Enjoying the summer as much as possible.  Again, playing with commenter/contributor NickJ up in the land of cheese.  But worry not.  That’s why younglefty is on board now.  He’s got an NL East post coming up for you today and if you’re lucky, he’ll bring more.  We’ve prepared the usual and included a Phil Mickelson post, an SEC preview from a special guest contributor and a LeBron post.  We love the LeBron post.  People from Cleveland probably won’t.  In honor of our golf round, we give you Natalie Gulbis.  After the jump, Tommy Boy.

There’s a lender out there that is allowing you to pledge your soul as collateral. We did this to a kid in middle school.  Still have the piece of paper with Mike Lange’s soul on it……..Michael Jackson is getting buried without his brain? What the hell, man?  This story is like America’s version of Princess Diana……..Just in case you missed yesterday, McNair’s girlfriend purchased a gun two days prior to Saturday. And, he injury was fired at point blank range to her head.  So was one of McNair’s……..Ever wonder what the gap between the top 1% and the rest of the country is? Wonder no longer!……..Robert McNamara, architect of the Vietnam War, died yesterday. Many acheievements on that resume despite the debacle of Vietnam

Hope everyone had a great 4th of July weekend.  We enjoyed some fireworks and woke up a little hungover for the Roddick and Federer match on Sunday morning.  Was there any doubt that Brooklyn Decker was going to be here this morning?  We’re currently investigating an issue with our Twitter account that has us unable to post anything on there for you guys.  Hopefully it’s resolved soon.  Until we know the details, e-mail us with anything at the usual spot.  SouvenirCityBlog at gmail dot com. We’ll tackle the Steve McNair story today and have another college football conference preview today too.  That preview is going to be done by our newest writer, younglefty.

Our fear of flying is well documented but this airline has a nude safety video.  That would go a long way to easing our mind during flight……..Oh Iowa.  Some things will never change we suppose.  A Palin 2012 sign? Already?……..The tone of this article is rather smug, but it’s definitely right.  The U.S. did win another race.  The Green Technology race……..Honduras won’t even let their former President’s jet land in his home country.  This situation is just begging to go completely off the reservation sooner rather than later……..You know, this makes a lot of sense.  Elimate the car dealers.  Why can’t we just go to the manufacturer’s web site and order direct?

After the jump, more Brooklyn and your standard FAIL video.

NickJ Indy picNickJ is our resident IndyCar expert.  He chimes in from time to time on all things open wheel.  He LOVES Danica and we’ll continue to give him shit for supporting the most over-hyped, under-talented racer in the last 100 years.  You should too.

Indy Car has not benefited from the scheduling of three short oval tracks in the past four races. The Milwaukee, Iowa and Richmond races, all of which were races at tracks under one mile, offered a glimpse into the problems facing the Indy Car Series. The shortness of the tracks showed us how difficult the Indy Car series has made it for its drivers to compete in lap traffic. Indy Cars perform best while driving in clean air.  It is relatively easy for a superior driver with a superior car to catch a slower driver and it becomes more difficult as they begin to drive in the turbulence created by the car in front of them. You can imagine the benefit this gives the lead car.

As we posted about yesterday, we watched the soccer match.  It was entertaining.  And much better than watching the Cubs get smoked by the Sox… again.  We’ll tentatively throw our hats in the soccer fan pool.  We still don’t know any players other than Tim Howard, Jozy (who named him?) Altidore and Tim Howard.  But, we’re learning.  It’s still on the bottom of our sports hierarchy, but we’re happy to have it aboard.  We’ll be out playing golf today with commenter and contributor NickJ.  2nd round of the year, hoping to break 95.  Don’t worry though, we’ve got 8 posts of entertainment to get you through the day.  Transformers opened to awful reviews, but Megan Fox (first time we’ve posted her!) is still a -10 for the course in everyone’s book.  We think she’s even par or one under.  (/runs!)

Honduras is the latest country to have some civility issues.  There was an army coup and the President is currently seeking asylum in the Costa Rica……..Mark Sanford, the South Carolina governor who went out of the country to get his rocks off, considered resigning from his post.  He won’t……..Looks like the Democrats may have a Republican ally in getting gay marriage passed.  The kids of gay couples……..Those damn wallabies!  They’re getting STONED and making crop circles! Australia:  Still land of degenerates……..A very good point about public healthcare.  If it’s not using public funds, isn’t it just an NPO offering health insurance?

After the jump, what we think the letters from the South Carolina might look like when writing to his whore.  If she were a man.  VIDEO!

We’ve got the grill fired up for the final top at our current location and we’re getting set to watch the Cross-Town Classic.  If you noticed any spelling errors in today’s posts, it’s because we’re day drinking.  Andy Hutchins even caught us being stupid on the Twitter.  We really can’t think of anyone better than Keeley to send you into the weekend.  She’s English too, so that finishes our theme for the week.

Last MJ link for the day.  There’s a secret library of 100 songs that could be released soon. We know we’re buying that……..A nice little chart showing you fees by airlines. We haven’t flown since last August.  Conquering that fear shortly……..A stop in Dallas yields 100 pounds of pot in a casket. Nope, not Nate Newton.  New guy……..The Sun-Times continues to be the right leaning paper here in Chicago. But, there are some valid points here……..The House won their vote on the Global Warming bill. Move it on up the ladder now.  We still don’t think it passes.

After the jump, the child bicycle crashes compilation to send you off to the weekend.  Set to music from Roger Rabbit.

We’ve got poker on tap for tonight so this could very well be the last post of the night.  Hopefully we don’t come back broke tomorrow since we don’t have our sponsors up yet.  The U.S. is good at soccer after all!  We beat Spain to end their 35 game unbeaten streak!  That’s all you’re getting from us on soccer.  On second thought, here’s Sapphira O’Shannon.  She’s an english WAG which before 2 weeks ago, was the only thing we paid attention to in soccer/football.  Do yourself a favor later and google image her.  Or just click the jump.

South Carolina governor the latest in a string of affairs in politics.  $50 he’s not the last.  Today……..A look at the GOP Stars that were supposed to be but are just never beens……..We’re still under missile watch.  We wouldn’t even call Obama’s plate full at this point. He’s got an all-you-can-eat buffet that he’s working on……..Forbes wants to know what the plan is for that buffet.  We thought this was issued months ago……..Woman pleads guilty in drunk breast-feeding case.  You have to read it to believe it……..Did anyone else know that Obama was a smoker?  Isn’t he trying to destroy the tobacco companies once and for all?
