Brooklyn DeckerPoints of Interest is the daily link dump for your morning or afternoon commute in and out of Souvenir City.  We’ll be throwing together some other stops from out there in blogdome and the interwebs to peak your interest.  Some of them will actually be what some might consider educational.  Most of them, are going to everything but that.

Hope everyone had a great 4th of July weekend.  We enjoyed some fireworks and woke up a little hungover for the Roddick and Federer match on Sunday morning.  Was there any doubt that Brooklyn Decker was going to be here this morning?  We’re currently investigating an issue with our Twitter account that has us unable to post anything on there for you guys.  Hopefully it’s resolved soon.  Until we know the details, e-mail us with anything at the usual spot.  SouvenirCityBlog at gmail dot com. We’ll tackle the Steve McNair story today and have another college football conference preview today too.  That preview is going to be done by our newest writer, younglefty.

Our fear of flying is well documented but this airline has a nude safety video.  That would go a long way to easing our mind during flight……..Oh Iowa.  Some things will never change we suppose.  A Palin 2012 sign? Already?……..The tone of this article is rather smug, but it’s definitely right.  The U.S. did win another race.  The Green Technology race……..Honduras won’t even let their former President’s jet land in his home country.  This situation is just begging to go completely off the reservation sooner rather than later……..You know, this makes a lot of sense.  Elimate the car dealers.  Why can’t we just go to the manufacturer’s web site and order direct?

After the jump, more Brooklyn and your standard FAIL video.

We’re still putting the finishing touches on moving but we went ahead and made sure that we had some programming today.  Not much going on yesterday other than baseball.  Today, you do have Wimbledon to work with.  Better yet, get out and enjoy the sun.  We’ll be in the pool this afternoon trying to make sure we don’t look like a token white guy.  And, we’re hitting the driving range this evening as we’re playing golf on both Monday and Tuesday with commenter and contributor NickJ85.  Gotta love the summer in the Midwest.  Because winter sucks.  Michelle Nunes does not.  She was our waitress at Hooters once.

In case you haven’t seen it yet, the Jackson family did issue a message to the fans on behalf of the departed.  We’re still rockin’ the MJ tunes on the iPod while doing the touch-up paint……..India is issuing ID cards to every single one of their citizens and placing them into a database.  Yup.  All 1.1 billion of them.  And you thought the line at the DMV here was bad……..Men in New York are charged with taking their passengers on a wild police chase.  First, we’d thank them.  Then, we’d tell the people that bitched that a cab would have been the same……..Arguments for a single bank regulator to prevent another credit crisis.  Step in the right direction if you ask us.

Speaking of golf… After the jump, a video of one of our favorite pranks.  We’ll have to get a job at a driving range to pull it off.

Michael Jackson Thriller Album Cover 25th Anniversary

The NBA Draft got overshadowed last night with the death of Michael Jackson being announced shortly after 6 p.m. on the east coast.  Still, the draft went on.  Lots of trades made last night.  Stuart continues to prove that he doesn’t belong behind a desk anymore.  And Ricky Rubio had a temper tantrum.  We’ll give our grades on the draft later today.  We leave you with Michael Jackson links, pictures and videos for the remainder of POI today.  Sports in the blog links.

TMZ has link after link after link after link of the coverage.  It’s almost a little bit too much……..The dispute over cause of death is also a little bit out of control.  The Jackson family is going to need some privacy over the next few days too……..Paramedics worked for about 40 minutes to try and keep him alive.  Not enough……..If you must see the last exclusive photo of M.J., here it is……..The biography from Rolling Stone is actually really good.  Normally we don’t read Rolling Stone very often either…….Madonna’s reaction can be found here.  Justin Timberlake’s can be found here.  It’s just amazing how far this guy’s music spanned and the influence that he had.  We’re a sports blog, but this story just reaches too far not to give it it’s proper due.

Sports Blogs:

Enough sports.  After the jump, the Michael Jackson videos you probably listened to last night.  They’re still good enough to get you through summer hours on a Friday

We’ve got a post coming up to end the day on Whitlock’s response to Jim Brown and Tiger Woods.  We’ve long thought that Jim Brown steps way out of his bounds when telling other athletes how to run their lives.  It’s 2009 Jim, not 1965.  Times change.  Information flow is greater.  Regardless, we had a bit of a slow day but did a lot of reading once we woke up without an alarm.  First time since we started this little place that we’ve done that.  The alarm thing, not the reading.  We’re continuing the theme of English soccer WAGs as we’re watching the footy while writing this.  Anastasia Kosenkova is Aliaksandr Hleb’s wife.  Don’t ask us who he is.

Sad.  Farrah Fawcett died today.  She was 62 years old. Bad things come in threes remember.  McMahon, Thomas, Fawcett……..The Dems are freaking out.  Al Gore bailed on them.  Now, they have no clue how to get this global warming bill passed.  Brainsplosion!……..If they can’t get that bill passed, what does that say about the success rate of the healthcare bill?……..An optomistic point of view.  Write off 2009, get over it.  Look at 2010 and see what you can do better for your investments then……..The FCC can’t be happy about this.  Porn has officially come to the iTunes store. It was only a matter of time……..Don’t send your children to the public library to use the computers.  They might run into a guy like this.

After the jump, a photo from the WAG party that was thrown in Anastasia’s honor.

DirkWe knew about this story a few weeks ago however what we didn’t know was how Dirk initially met his ex-fiance.  Really, Dirk?  She dialed you by mistake and you just kept talking to her?  That has got to be the most bass-ackwards way any couple has ever met.  Well, maybe not.  But, it’s still strange.  More to the point, we hope that Dirk does eventually get custody of the child.  From what we read, Crista Ann Taylor sounds like a complete nut job.  Definitely not someone fit to be a mother.

Her police record is longer than Ray Lewis, Plaxico Burress and Steven Jackson’s combined.  Good luck to Dirk.  Perhaps the little guy will actually be the next Dirk Nowitzki unlike Darko and all the other European players that have come to the NBA and flopped.

The working folk have us beat with their alarm clocks but we were up early this morning.  Likely a nap in the future before venturing out of the basement and into the outside world.  Also, the CTA is the reason that Chicago will likely not get the Olympics in 2016.  We took it this morning for the first time in 7 months during the morning rush.  Almost lost it.  We put up this picture becuase of the news about her today but personally, we give her a “meh” on the hotness scale.  Onto the links!

After everything that has happened to them over the years, the big tobacco companies are going no where any time soon…….So that thing we were worried about this morning that we thought wouldn’t happen.  Well, it might……..Why are there so many speed bumps in D.C.?  Are you all bad drivers? We know a few……….We watch the New World Order when we were kids.  But what in the world is the Obama World Order?……..Recession, good economy.  Typically, to come out of the latter and into the former you need a big boom. It was real estate last time.  What will it be this time?

NFL Meetings FootballA day after Dante Stallworth essentially bought his freedom from a Florida court, Roger Goodell is taking away his livlihood.  It’s rare that you’ll see us agree with suspensions that Goodell lays out, but we have to side with the commish on this one.  His words were pretty strong and stern in a letter he sent to Stallworth:

The conduct reflected in your guilty plea resulted in the tragic loss of life and was inexcusable.  While the criminal justice system has determined the legal consequences of this incident, it is my responsibility as NFL commissioner to determine the appropriate league discipline for your actions, which have caused irreparable harm to the victim and his family, your club, your fellow players and the NFL.

He’s right.  We wonder how long indefinitely will turn out to be.
